2013-2014 | Mayor's Star Council

The MSC 2013-2014 class took a multifaceted approach to engaging the Southern Dallas community, with an eye to both the short and longer-term benefits. Recognizing that the issues we are working to resolve have been developing over generations, it is critical that the MSC founders agree that the program as defined below be picked up in perpetuity by each successive class. For second class focused their efforts on a leadership and mentoring project, the Mayor's Rising Star Council. Featuring hand selected students from five Dallas ISD high schools (Adamson, Lincoln, Madison, South Oak Cliff and Roosevelt), the MRSC and the MSC worked together to educate and engage with one another.

The MSC project committee chose a to empower the next generation of students to actively participate in their communities and help realize the potential of the GrowSouth initiative. This legacy program would still allow each class to work with their respective Mayor’s Rising Star Council class to define and implement both local and “capstone projects”, but within a defined framework. The class of 2013-2014 is still putting the finishing touches on the MRSC projects.
